El Yunque National Forest Tour

El Yunque National Forest has served as host for adventurers and explorers since ancient times, captive by El Yunque wilderness and biodiversity. This tropical treasure of "El Yunque" is located east of Puerto Rico in the Sierra de Luquillo Mountains and is the only tropical rain-forest in the United States National Forest System. El Yunque is one of the most biologically diverse areas that the US Department of Agriculture and Forest Service manages with an area of 28,000 acres with 240 species of native trees, of which 88 are rare and 23 are only found in the forest and receives over 200 inches of rain a year. Tropical rain forests around the world are located in a green belt around the Equator covering seven percent of the Earth's surface. El Yunque National Forest gets its name from the Taino word Yuk-eh which meaning "white sacred lands" because of its cloud cover and white mist mountains. The Spaniards explorers confuse or change the Taino name to Yunque or anvil, in reference to the shape of one of the forest peak. We invite you to harmonize your senses with nature and join our Hiking and Interpretive Tour and participate in the conservation, perpetuation and recreation of El Yunque National Forest, the only rainforest in the US National Forest System a true encounter with nature.
